Modena celebrates 50 years of Lupo Alberto with exhibition
The Fondazione Modena Arti Visive presents 'Zitt! Zitt! Arriva Lupo Alberto. Silver, 50 anni da lupo' at the Museo della Figurina in Modena, running from March 8 to August 25, 2024. Curated by Francesca Fontana and Lorenzo Respi, the show marks the 50th anniversary of Lupo Alberto, the blue-furred comic wolf created by Silver (Guido Silvestri) in 1973. The character debuted in 1974 on the pages of Corriere dei Ragazzi and has since become a staple of Italian comics, known for his witty humor and social satire set in the McKenzie farm. The exhibition traces the character's evolution through original strips, books, figurines, cartoons, and video games, highlighting key moments and merchandising efforts that contributed to his enduring popularity. Collaborators include McK, Lucca Comics & Games, and Lucca Collezionando. Lupo Alberto has surpassed 440 issues and remains a constant in Italian publishing despite changes in periodicity and the 2022 decision to stop distributing the magazine in newsstands.
