MOCA Estudio Refurbishes Madrid Apartment with 1970s Materials

MOCA Estudio has completed CASA GNR, a refurbishment of a 1970s apartment in Madrid's Carabanchel district. The project uses peripheral materials like terrazzo flooring, aluminum window frames, and ceramic tiling, elevating utilitarian elements through precise application. Original features such as cast iron radiators, green fabric awnings, and marble tables are preserved with their patina. The floor plan was recalibrated to enhance natural light and air circulation. The design avoids generic minimalism, instead creating a dialogue with the neighborhood's mid-century identity. Bold color accents include a deep green corduroy sofa and a striking red radiator. The project is part of a wave of Madrid renovations prioritizing local character, alongside PDLL70 House by Plutarco, Casa Eme by GON Architects, and works by Corrigan Estudio.
