Moby Announces 25th Anniversary Tour for Iconic Album Play

Moby, born Richard Melville Hall, will celebrate the 25th anniversary of his landmark album Play with a short European tour from September 18 to 25, 2024. The tour includes seven concerts in Manchester, London, Antwerp, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Paris, and Lausanne. All proceeds will be donated to animal rights organizations, reflecting Moby's long-standing activism. Play, released on May 17, 1999, by V2 Records, sold 12 million copies worldwide and is known for blending electronic music with gospel, folk, house, lounge, and ambient genres, incorporating field recordings by ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax. The album was initially a slow burner; Moby recalled a promotional show in the basement of Virgin Megastore in Union Square with only about 40 listeners. Its success exploded after ten months, reaching number one in the UK in February 2000, surpassing Santana's Supernatural. Play made history as the first album to have all its tracks licensed for third-party use, with songs like Porcelain featured in films such as The Beach. The tour will include hits from Play as well as fan favorites like Extreme Ways, We Are All Made of Stars, When It's Cold I'd Like to Die, and rave tracks Feeling So Real and Go. This marks Moby's first tour in over a decade.
