institutional · 2026-05-04

Established in 1999 by Zurab Tsereteli, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) officially opened its doors on December 15, 1999, following Tsereteli's generous donation of a historic building along with his art collection. Originally featuring 2,000 pieces, the museum's collection has expanded to over 14,000, showcasing works by notable artists such as Arnoldo Pomodoro and Andy Warhol. MMOMA hosts more than sixty exhibitions each year, emphasizing emerging talent and educational initiatives. The museum operates seven venues, which include the Vadim Sidur Museum and a training center inaugurated in 2017 at Ermolaevsky Street 17. In 2000, the Independent Workshop School of Contemporary Art became part of MMOMA, which also collaborates with the Russian Academy of Arts and co-organizes the Biennale of Young Art with NCCA-ROSIZO.
