MLB Home Gallery Opens Second Location in Porto Cervo with Group Show 'L'occhio e la mano'

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Maria Livia Brunelli, founder of the Ferrara-based Home Gallery MLB, has opened a second location in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, for summer 2023. The gallery, housed in a property purchased by her father in 1974, operates as a domestic space where artworks are integrated into the home environment, echoing the pioneering model of Leo Castelli's first New York apartment gallery in 1957. The current exhibition, 'L'occhio e la mano da Bertozzi & Casoni a Simona Ghizzoni,' features works by Daniela Foresto, Anna Di Prospero, Simona Ghizzoni, Marcello Carrà, Barbara Capponi, and Bertozzi & Casoni. The show explores ambiguous perception, human contradictions, and the illusion of reality, often with black humor. Highlights include Bertozzi & Casoni's hyperrealistic ceramic sculptures of melted ice cream and cigarette butts, and Ghizzoni's photograph of flamingos with numbered tags, critiquing the paradox of 'natural' images. The gallery opens every Friday evening to a maximum of twelve visitors, offering an aperitivo and fostering intimate relationships. The nonprofit association MLB Home Gallery plans to move its legal headquarters to Sardinia, aiming to become a cultural beacon for the local and tourist community. Brunelli emphasizes the importance of creating relationships and community in a time when such connections are lacking.
