Mladen Miljanović to perform at Bosnia and Herzegovina pavilion opening for Venice Biennale

exhibition · 2026-04-20

Mladen Miljanović will present a performance on May 30th at the opening of the Bosnia and Herzegovina pavilion, titled “The Garden of Delights,” located in Palazzo Malipiero, San Marco, during the Venice Biennale. He notes that his artistic contribution concludes after this performance, with the project already developed and produced. Miljanović describes representing his country as a “problematic honour,” highlighting that Bosnia and Herzegovina has not participated in the biennale since 2003, its only prior involvement. He approaches the exhibition with the same conscience and responsibility regardless of location, dismissing distinctions between Venice and a Bosnian village. The artist aims to communicate with all audiences without classification, addressing both art professionals and the general public. His memories of the biennale include fascination with African immigrants selling items and evading Carabinieri in Venice. Miljanović also looks forward to seeing new super mega yachts owned by Russian billionaires near the Giardini or encyclopedic art displays reflecting a diverse world. The questionnaire was conducted by ArtReview as part of a series featuring artists in national pavilions.
