Mladen Miljanović's Realtime Monument Exhibition at Budapest's acb Gallery Explores Pandemic Death in Stone Engravings
From March 10 to April 15, 2022, Mladen Miljanović's exhibition titled Realtime Monument is being held at acb Gallery in Budapest. The artist from Banja Luka delves into the themes of monuments and representations of death amid the pandemic. This exhibition, which was previously displayed at the Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade from November 2021 to January 2022, showcases works such as Realtime Monument, which inscribes COVID-19 death statistics from January 1, 2020, onto black granite. Another notable piece, Blaupunkt 20-21, features nine granite slabs engraved with the names of 261 public figures who passed away in 2020-2021. Miljanović offers a critique of how the media portrays death and views monuments as instruments of political expression. The exhibition also includes stone replicas of devices inscribed with phrases like "Death Capital" and is part of a special ARTMargins Online issue focusing on monuments in Central and Eastern Europe.
