MKDT Studio Spring 2027: Copenhagen Fashion Week Show Draws on Danish Art

At Copenhagen Fashion Week, MKDT Studio presented its Spring 2027 collection, drawing inspiration from two contrasting Danish artists. Creative director Caroline Engelgaar looked to early 20th-century painter Vilhelm Hammershøi for contemplation and serenity, and to photographer Kirsten Klein for wildness and freedom. The collection explored the duality of womanhood, moving between calm and wildness. Classic silhouettes in black and white were deceptively simple, with details like a structured cami cascading to the ankle and a linen blazer lined with buttons. Sculptural column skirts and simple tops were layered under translucent jackets and double-layered dresses, creating a sense of a woman in motion. Blurred floral prints developed with visual creative Cecilie Ellerup and floral appliqués by embroidery artisan Thit Moses added texture. The show took place outdoors near MKDT Studio's Nyhaven store, with seating on the sidewalks of Sankt Annæ Plads, and Hammershøi's former home visible in the distance. Engelgaar noted that the everyday setting became the stage, allowing viewers to see how women walk, sit, and move through the city.
