Mizu no Ie: Izu Diving Retreat by NASCA Opens in Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park

architecture-design · 2026-05-25

Architecture firm NASCA has completed Mizu no Ie, a diving retreat in the Izu Highlands of Japan, overlooking Mount Omuro. The 293-square-meter project, finished in 2024, is located within Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Designed by lead architect Nobuaki Furuya and curated by Miwa Negoro, the retreat aims to immerse visitors in the natural environment—water, air, greenery, and climate—allowing them to release their senses. The team includes Hiroyuki Kano and Taiga Kitora, with structural engineering by Ryotaro Sakata Structural Engineers, MEP by Setsubikeikaku, and lighting by ModuleX. Photographs by Satoshi Asakawa document the project. The architects describe the concept as a place where people, born naked and clad in garments, houses, cities, and nature, can be directly embraced by the surroundings.
