award · 2026-04-20

Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury has received the prestigious Samdani Art Award, which is granted every two years at the Dhaka Art Summit. His entry, titled The Soul Who Fails to Fly into the Space, is a multimedia sculpture that triumphed over ten other contenders, such as Ahmed Rasel and Marzia Farhana. Thanks to collectors Nadia and Rajeeb Samdani, Chowdhury will enjoy a six-week residency at the Delfina Foundation in London. The jury, chaired by Aaron Cezar and featuring notable artists like Sheela Gowda and Mona Hatoum, chose from a list curated by Simon Castets. Chowdhury, who holds an MA in printmaking from the University of Dhaka, has expanded his work to include sculpture and video. An exhibition of the shortlisted artists will also be hosted at the summit.
