Mixed Use, Manhattan exhibition at Reina Sofía explores photography's role in New York's 1970s-2010s transformation

From June 10 to September 2, 2010, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid hosted the exhibition 'Mixed Use, Manhattan: Photography and Related Practices, 1970s to the Present.' Curated by Douglas Crimp and Lynne Cooke, the show highlighted the contributions of 40 artists, such as Cindy Sherman, Barbara Probst, Babette Mangolte, and Bernd and Hilla Becher, among others, reflecting on the changes in New York City. Featured works included Sherman's 1978 Untitled Film Stills, Probst's 2001 Grand Central Station, and Matta-Clark's 1973 Window Blow-Out. The exhibition illustrated the role of photography, performance, and conceptual art in the city's evolution, showcasing many pieces that had not been publicly displayed before.
