Mitèmi: Raffaele Fiorella and Simona Anna Gentile in Lecce
The double solo show "Mitèmi" by Raffaele Fiorella and Simona Anna Gentile, curated by Eliana Masulli, explores the concept of mytheme as defined by Claude Lévi-Strauss—an irreducible narrative unit of myth linked to the collective unconscious. The two Apulian artists employ different media to investigate the correspondence between mytheme and universal psychic structures, shaped by individual cultural influences. Gentile's work "Mehr als zweitausend Jahre" (More than Two Thousand Years) features an eleven-meter soft canvas with ink drawings depicting primordial chaos and mythological references from Magna Graecia, rich in cosmogonic symbolism between Eros and Thanatos. Fiorella presents micro video-installations: a sequence of small windows inhabited by animated images—indiscreet neighbors' gazes, a stormy sea, wind-blown leaves—analyzing the inner gaze and the dichotomy between the self that looks and the self that is observed. The exhibition takes place in Lecce.
