MITA Brescia presents Chinese imperial carpets from Ming to Qing
MITA – Museo Internazionale del Tappeto Antico in Brescia opens 'Le trame del dragone. Tappeti cinesi delle dinastie imperiali', featuring about forty pieces from the Romain Zaleski collection, the world's most important private collection of antique carpets. Curated by Giovanni Valagussa, the exhibition traces Chinese carpet history from the 15th to the 19th century, covering two main typologies: red-ground carpets from the Xinjiang oases (Kashgar, Yarkand, Khotan) with Taoist and Buddhist motifs, and gold-and-blue carpets from the Ming and Qing capitals Nanjing and Beijing, featuring dragon, bat, and carp symbolism. The display includes fragrances (aloe, magnolia, lotus), contemporary reinterpretations of traditional Chinese music, and period ceramics. The museum, a 1300 sqm glass cube designed by OBR, shows about forty works at a time, always free. The exhibition runs until June.
