Mit Jai Inn's 'Actants' at Silverlens Gallery explores canvas as movable object
Mit Jai Inn's inaugural solo exhibition in the Philippines is hosted at Silverlens Gallery in Manila from September 21 to October 19, 2019. The artist, based in Chiang Mai, showcases three innovative series that push the limits of conventional painting and sculpture. 'Actants' consists of unframed striped canvases that encourage viewer engagement. In 'Screens' (2019), large canvases are sliced into strips, allowing visitors to explore around them. 'Loops' (2019) features vibrant, twisted strips of canvas that resemble necklaces. 'Dream Works' (1999/2019) presents frayed canvas tiles arranged in a grid, highlighting the material's flexibility. 'Scrolls' (2019) showcases rolled canvases in spiral formations. Additionally, two 'Patch Works' (2019) utilize woven strips. The exhibition focuses on themes of movement, transformation, and audience participation, expanding on his prior group exhibition at Silverlens.
