Miss Dior's History Becomes an Animated Film by Ugo Bienvenu

French illustrator and director Ugo Bienvenu has created an animated film for Dior Beauty that traces the history of the Miss Dior fragrance, from its 1947 debut alongside Christian Dior's 'New Look' collection to its modern iteration. The film, now available on Dior's YouTube channel, focuses on three key themes: inspiration (Catherine Dior, Christian's sister, his childhood, and Provence), creation (the first fashion show and fragrance unveiling), and continuity (the fragrance's place in today's world). Bienvenu developed the concept with Stephen Vuillemin (storyboard) and Arthur Sevestre (designs), and the backgrounds were hand-painted using gouache and acrylic. The campaign marks the first time Dior has used animation for its fragrance visuals. The original Miss Dior, launched in 1947, was an unconventional chypre floral with galbanum, gardenia, rose, leather, and patchouli, inspired by Catherine Dior, a French Resistance fighter who survived concentration camps and later cultivated flowers. The modern Miss Dior Eau de Parfum is softer, with rose, vanilla, almond, and wood notes, and has been promoted by actress Natalie Portman. Bienvenu and his team reviewed extensive documentation from Dior to ensure historical accuracy. The film balances the house's heritage with a dynamic, youthful, and romantic vision, highlighting the fragrance's deep roots in Dior's history.
