Miško Šuvaković's Lecture on Yugoslav Neo-Avant-Garde 1951-1973 Released as Podcast

A podcast featuring Miško Šuvaković's lecture on the Yugoslav neo-avant-garde from 1951 to 1973 has been published by ARTMargins Online. Šuvaković, a Belgrade-based theorist and former conceptual artist, delivered this presentation at the University of Chicago's Center for East European and Russian/Eurasian Studies during the "New Histories of Modern Art: The East European Avant-Gardes" conference held February 4-6, 2010. The lecture examines artistic developments in Yugoslavia during those specific decades. Šuvaković co-founded and participated in several artistic groups including Group 143 (1975-1980) and the informal "Community for Space Investigation" (1982-1989). He has been involved with the TkH – theory platform since October 2000 and joined the Slovenian Aesthetic Society in 1988. Currently teaching aesthetics and art theory at Belgrade's Faculty of Music and University of Art, Šuvaković has co-edited numerous publications including Katalog 143 (1975-78), Mentalni prostor (1982-1987), and the magazines Teorija koja hoda (from 2001) and Kultura (from 2004). His editorial work extends to academic volumes such as "Postmodernism and the Postsocialist Condition: Politicized Art under Late Socialism" (2003) and "Impossible Histories: Historic Avant-Gardes, Neo-Avant-Gardes, and Post-Avant-Gardes in Yugoslavia, 1918-1991" (2006).
