Misano Circuit's 50th Anniversary: A Track Designed by Visionary Artist Aldo Drudi

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

The Misano World Circuit, celebrating its 50th anniversary, is a unique racetrack where the asphalt itself is a canvas painted by Aldo Drudi, a designer and artist who revolutionized motorcycle aesthetics by bringing color to suits, helmets, and bike liveries—most memorably for Valentino Rossi. Located between the Marche and Romagna regions, the circuit is renowned for its stunning landscape of hills, Montefeltro, and the Adriatic Sea. For the anniversary, the circuit, in collaboration with the University of Bologna's Center for Advanced Tourism Studies, has launched programs to valorize its historical archive. Marco Montemaggi, an expert in heritage marketing, selected 49 images from 60,000 to create a timeline that traces the evolution of the circuit's logo and history. The archive includes duels between riders, Valentino's donkey helmet, truck races, night races, tests with cars driven by Zanardi, Villeneuve, and Schumacher, and the metallic gaze of Carl Fogarty. A white panel from 2020, an open contest, will be awarded in September during the Moto GP event.
