exhibition · 2026-04-26

A major retrospective dedicated to Joan Mirò opens at the Museo Storico della Fanteria in Rome, presenting around 140 works spanning from 1924 to 1981. The exhibition, titled 'Miró – Il costruttore di sogni', is curated by Vincenzo Sanfo, Achille Bonito Oliva, and Maïthé Vallès-Bled, and runs until January 12, 2025. It is organized into eight thematic sections: Litografie, Manifesti, Poesia, Ceramiche, Derrière le Miroir, Pittura, Musica, and Miró e i suoi amici. The works, mostly from private Italian and French collections, include paintings, lithographs, prints, and ceramics, offering an anthological view of Mirò's career. The exhibition highlights his versatility as a painter, sculptor, ceramist, and choreographer, with a particular focus on his lifelong passion for printmaking, especially engraving. Mirò's experimentation with techniques such as etching, lithography, carborundum, and monotype is showcased, emphasizing his constant search for new inspirations through color and material. Despite his eclecticism, the curators note his coherence in maintaining a strong sense of imagination and compositional attention. A dedicated section explores his friendship with fellow Spanish artists Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí, featuring a touching photograph. The exhibition aims to demonstrate how Mirò's works invite viewers to imagine a better world.
