Miró-Picasso: 250 masterpieces unite in Barcelona double exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Barcelona hosts a major exhibition titled Miró-Picasso, jointly organized by the Fundació Joan Miró and the Museo Picasso, as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Pablo Picasso's death. The show brings together over 250 masterpieces from public and private collections, including the Musée National Picasso and Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, and the Tate in London. It explores the friendship and mutual influence between Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma de Mallorca, 1983) and Pablo Picasso (Málaga, 1881 – Mougins, 1973), two pillars of 20th-century avant-garde painting. Highlights include Miró's Woman, Bird, Star (an homage to Picasso) and Picasso's Dancers and Las Meninas, as well as The Farm and Figures by the Sea. A unique feature is the exchange of works between the two museums, allowing pieces to inhabit unfamiliar spaces and offering fresh perspectives on consonances and divergences. The exhibition runs until February 25, 2024, at both venues.
