Mirko Basaldella's Mythic Bestiary at Scaramouche Gallery Milan
Scaramouche Gallery in Milan presents 'Iconografia e mito', a major exhibition of Mirko Basaldella (1910–1969) featuring over 60 works, mostly from the 1950s and 1960s. Curated by Daniele Ugolini, the show is the gallery's third chapter since its inauguration, drawing from the collection of the artist's widow Serena Cagli Basaldella and later the Zariski heirs. The exhibition includes bronze sculptures, polychrome wood carvings, and works in copper, brass, and steel, blending Etruscan, Cubist, and abstract influences. Basaldella's mythic figures—part sci-fi, part primitive—reflect postwar anxieties and hopes for rebirth. The artist previously appeared at Fondazione Luigi Rovati in Milan, where his 'Leone urlante' was juxtaposed with Etruscan bronzes. The show runs through the end of 2025.
