Mire Lee's Eigensinnige Welten at Vienna Secession

At the Vienna Secession, Korean artist Mire Lee has transformed a cement mixer and rust-red liquid into a disconcerting yet fascinating cycle. The exhibition features a large cement mixer with its casing opened like a heart surgery, emitting a viscous rust-red substance that is pumped onto slanted walls and spreads across the polished terrazzo floor, forming cracks, crusts, and skins. Lee masterfully converts dysfunction into a stubborn state of organic and inorganic materials, creating erratic machine worlds that are also inner worlds. Visitors witness an open-ended process, making the experience both compelling and demanding. The show is on view at the Secession in Vienna.
