Mircea Cantor's 'More Cheeks Than Slaps' Opens at New Crédac Space

exhibition · 2026-04-23

The Crédac art center in Ivry-sur-Seine has relocated to the former Manufacture des Œillets after 24 years in the Jeanne-Hachette center. Curated by Claire le Restif, who has directed the center for eight years, the inaugural exhibition features Romanian artist Mircea Cantor. Titled 'More Cheeks Than Slaps,' the show presents seven works that explore illusion, trace, and the tension between innocence and violence. Highlights include 'Fishing Fly' (2011), a model fighter jet made from oil barrels with a giant fishhook, and 'Fishing Flies' (1990-2011), a collection of military vehicle stickers embellished with gold leaf. A video, 'Tracking Happiness' (2009), shows seven women sweeping away each other's footprints in a white vortex, evoking forgetfulness. The exhibition runs from September 18 to December 18, 2011.
