Mircea Cantor's 'Don't Judge. Filter. Shot.' at Centre Pompidou

exhibition · 2026-04-23

From October 2, 2012, until January 7, 2013, Espace 315 at the Centre Pompidou will showcase 'Don't Judge. Filter. Shot.' by Mircea Cantor, the recipient of the 2011 Marcel Duchamp Prize. His artistic exploration delves into themes of artifice, employing symbols such as fire, the tree of life, the number seven, and rope, along with motifs like footprints, fingerprints, and barbed wire. Significant pieces in the exhibition include 'The Second Step' (2005), 'Chaplet' (2007), and 'Protection' (2010). Noteworthy is Cantor's 'Arch of Triumph' (2008), which incorporates oak from pre-communist gates, and 'Epic Fountain' (2012), made of gold safety pins. His video work, 'Sic Transit Gloria Mundi' (2012), depicts beggars with a dynamite fuse, alongside 'Double Head Matches' (2002-2003) and 'Tracking Happiness' (2009).
