Mirad'Or: New Art Pavilion on Lake Iseo Opens with Daniel Buren
A new floating art pavilion, Mirad'Or, has opened on Lake Iseo in Pisogne, Italy. Designed by Mauro Piantelli of De8_Architetti, the structure sits on the site of a medieval port and an ancient washhouse, whose broken stone is reflected in the pavilion's logo. The pavilion is intended as a flexible space for contemporary art, both inside and outside, directly on the water. For its inauguration, internationally renowned artist Daniel Buren presents four large luminous works divided into six diptychs, visible day and night from outside, best viewed from a distance. The works combine Buren's signature 8.7 cm vertical stripes with fiber optic technology, making the pieces themselves sources of light. The project was commissioned by the municipality of Pisogne in collaboration with the Associazione Belle Arti, with a program curated by gallerist Massimo Minini. Mayor Federico Laini expressed pride in the new free public space, hoping it becomes an unmissable stop for visitors. The Brescia province has a history of major public contemporary art interventions, including Christo's Floating Piers (2016), Mimmo Paladino's Ouverture, Anish Kapoor's reinstallation of the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo, and Pascale Marthine Tayou's installation under the castle.
