Mirabilia Urbis: A One-Night Art Happening Reclaims Rome's Historic Center

exhibition · 2026-05-04

In 2019, the exhibition Mirabilia Urbis, curated by Giuliana Benassi and produced by artQ13, hosted a one-night event in Rome’s historic center near Campo dei Fiori. Designed by Carlo Caloro and executed by Municipio 1 Centro Roma, the event sought to bridge art, craftsmanship, and local culture. Various installations and performances took place at locations such as Cinema Farnese, Libreria Fahrenheit 451, and Drunken Ship. Notable features included Tomaso Binga's videoclip, Julian Rosefeldt's short film Deep Gold, and performances by Matteo Nasini and Leonardo Petrucci, who showcased camouflaged rock posters. Additional works included Britta Lenk's light installation, Federica Di Carlo's Immerso, Carlo Caloro's Bluemoon Operation, and Grossi Maglioni's emergency tents, all aimed at reclaiming the historic center from tourism.
