Mirabilia Festival 2022: Circus, Dance, and Theater Invade Cuneo

The 16th edition of the Mirabilia International Circus & Performing Arts Festival, directed by Fabrizio Gavosto, takes place in Cuneo and surrounding towns from August 5 to September 10, 2022. Titled 'Strange Beasts from Outer Space,' the program features giant puppet creatures by French company Transe Express in 'Poupées Géants et Tambours' (August 31), the acrobatic vehicle show 'Arrêt d’Urgence' by Akoreacro (September 3-4), and a giant whale in Teatro dei Venti's 'Moby Dick' (September 3). Two Italian premieres include Spanish Nueveuno Circo's 'Sinergia 3.0' (August 31) and French CirkVost's 'A-Tripik' (same evening), a reflection on money, friendship, and seduction mixing clowning, acrobatics, and vocal polyphony. Dance highlights on September 3 include Abbondanza/Bertoni's 'Doppelgänger,' Di Rocco and Rosati's 'Entanglement,' and Compagnia EgriBiancoDanza's 'EartHeart.' Urban dance by Cie Twain presents 'Silence' on September 2. Unique 'Home Shows' for up to six spectators in private homes feature works by Isacco Basilotta, Teatro Selvatico, and Gianluca Repetto's 'Operazione Mago.' Pre-festival events run in Alba (August 5-7), Vernante (August 7, 10-11), Busca (August 25-28), and a finale at Museo Ferroviario Piemontese in Savigliano (September 10). The festival includes aerial dance by Eventi Verticali (August 27) and residency presentations. Gavosto emphasizes the festival's role as a fertile incubator integrated into the social fabric.
