Minimal κ–τ Logic for Risk-Sensitive Abduction

A recent submission to arXiv (2608.08192) presents a minimal κ–τ logical framework aimed at abductive reasoning within risk-sensitive contexts. This framework introduces two key components: epistemic interaction between hypotheses (κ) and a threshold for normative commitment (τ). Hypotheses may coexist, support, or oppose one another, leading to the creation of composite explanations. Commitment to conclusions is determined by constraints rather than inference pressure. The logic functions in two complementary modes that share both the interaction relation and the governance threshold. This framework emphasizes the timing of commitment as a decision influenced by governance, particularly important given the risks of premature commitment. The paper critiques traditional abductive reasoning for lacking explicit cross-hypothesis interactions and a rival-sensitive commitment judgment.
