MINIARTEXTIL: 30th edition of textile art festival in Como
The 30th edition of MINIARTEXTIL, a festival dedicated to fiber art, returns to Como after skipping a year due to the pandemic, running until July 18, 2021. The event debuts at the Pinacoteca Civica and the Padiglione ex grossisti del Mercato Coperto, with a parallel exhibition METAMORPHOSIS at Villa Olmo. The festival is promoted by Fondazione Bortolaso Totaro Sponga, founded three years ago by Nazzarena Bortolaso, Mimmo Totaro, and Giancarlo Sponga. At the Pinacoteca Civica, 54 mini-textiles selected from 314 entries across five continents are displayed, with the first prize awarded to Lucie Richard-Bertrand for Hara House. The Padiglione ex grossisti features a large installation by Stefano Ogliari Badessi titled SEI ESATTAMENTE DOVE DOVRESTI ESSERE, a 25-meter golden sphere with sculptures made partly from textile materials and recycled items. METAMORPHOSIS at Villa Olmo includes works by Jannis Kounellis, Nedko Solakov, Sheila Hicks, Daniel Buren, Jonathan Monk, and emerging Italian artists Matteo Nasini, Giulia Cenci, and Margherita Raso.
