Mindful Hands: Masterpieces of Miniature at Fondazione Giorgio Cini

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The exhibition 'Mindful Hands' at Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice showcases over 120 pages and illuminated initials from the 12th to 16th centuries, selected from 238 miniatures donated by Vittorio Cini in 1962. Curated by Federica Toniolo and Massimo Medica, the display features a dialogue between ancient and contemporary elements. Architect Michele De Lucchi designed the central hall with fabric niches inspired by church choirs and octagonal oak cabinets for conservation. Multimedia installations by Factum Arte include the video 'Cuttings' documenting parchment making, a 1:1 reproduction of the 'Offiziolo di Carlo VIII', and monumental enlargements of miniatures from the 'Martirologio della Confraternita dei Battuti Neri di Ferrara' with a sacred chant soundtrack. The exhibition runs until January 8, 2017.
