Mimmo Paladino's Sand Horse Returns to Paestum
Mimmo Paladino's 'Cavallo di sabbia' (Sand Horse) has been permanently installed at the Paestum archaeological park in Italy, between the temples of Hera and Neptune. The sculpture, made of fiberglass and covered with sand from the beach of Poseidonia, was originally conceived for this site but had been removed. It was restored before its return. The work is part of a series of horse sculptures by Paladino, which began with a group placed on his Salt Mountain in Gibellina in 1990, followed by duplicates in Naples (1995) and Milan (2011). Other horses are located in Ancona, Modena, and Benevento. The installation was organized by Nuvola Lista and Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the Paestum park.
