Mimmo Paladino's artist-designed Christmas lights illuminate Perugia
Mimmo Paladino (Paduli, 1948), a leading Italian artist whose work is held by institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Nationalgalerie in Berlin, the National Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh, the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome, and the Castello di Rivoli, has created a series of artist-designed Christmas lights for Perugia. The installation, titled "Concerto in piazza," will hang above Corso Vannucci from early December until January 6, 2025. The project results from a collaboration between the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria and the Comune di Perugia. Paladino's designs incorporate symbols evoking the region's landscape and identity, including the griffin profile, medieval village elements, crosses, faces, a trifora from Palazzo dei Priori, and the Fontana Maggiore. The lights coincide with his anthological exhibition at the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria (open until January 18), the Rocca Albornoziana in Spoleto, and the Palazzo Ducale in Gubbio.
