Mimmo Paladino Opens Rome's Teatro Valle for Limited Run

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Rome's historic Teatro Valle, closed for four years of restoration, stages an exceptional reopening today, April 7, 2018, at 6 PM with an installation by artist Mimmo Paladino. The event, titled 'Interludio Valle,' marks a temporary interlude between closures, running from April to December 2018, though only Paladino's exhibition is confirmed through May 13. The show 'Paladino al Teatro Valle: 19 drammaturghi e un Sipario in scena' features the large 'Sipario di attesa' (2009) on stage and portrait-works of 19 playwrights in the second-tier boxes, curated by director Antonio Calbi. Mayor Virginia Raggi and Deputy Mayor Luca Bergamo will attend the foyer opening. The theater, built in 1727 by Tommaso Morelli for Camillo Capranica, is Rome's oldest, with a controversial history including a three-year occupation from 2011 to 2014. Future management remains unresolved.
