Mimmo Jodice Retrospective at Madre Napoli
The Madre museum in Naples presents a major retrospective of photographer Mimmo Jodice (b. 1934), curated by director Andrea Viliani. The exhibition, titled 'Attesa. 1960-2016', runs until October 24, 2016. It is structured chiastically, with a central laboratory-like room that can be visited at the start or end, showcasing Jodice's experimental works that established him as a pioneer of university photography education in Italy. The show is divided into three sections: archaeological visions, the recent series 'Attese' (metaphysical scenes of waiting), and 'Transiti' (exploring ancient gazes and suggestions). The curatorial approach avoids a static celebration, instead opening new interpretive directions through juxtapositions with works by Magritte, Piranesi, Ribera, Morandi, de Chirico, and Sironi.
