Milton Resnick and Pat Passlof Foundation Opens in Restored Manhattan Synagogue
The Milton Resnick and Pat Passlof Foundation officially opened on September 15/16, 2018, in a restored former synagogue on Manhattan's Lower East Side. Ryall Sheridan Architects oversaw the building restoration, funded by the sale of Pat Passlof's nearby studio-home, which was also a former synagogue. Since July 2018, the space has been operating in preview mode with an inaugural exhibition showcasing Milton Resnick's paintings from 1937 to 1987. A second exhibition dedicated to Pat Passlof is scheduled for 2019. The foundation's opening marks a new cultural institution in New York, with artcritical highlighting its archival coverage of both artists over the years. The archive includes reviews and articles from 2004 to 2014, featuring writings by Jonathan Goodman, Eric Sutphin, David Cohen, Geoffrey Dorfman, and Joseph Walentini. These pieces cover Resnick's exhibitions at venues like Mana Contemporary and Cheim & Read, as well as obituaries and retrospectives on both artists. The foundation's establishment preserves the legacies of these two significant New York School painters.
