exhibition · 2026-05-04

Milovan Farronato has been designated as the curator for the Italy Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019 by Italian Minister of Cultural Heritage Alberto Bonisoli. His proposal was chosen from a shortlist of three, curated by the Directorate General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries, under the leadership of Federica Galloni. The selection involved ten notable Italian curators, such as Antonia Alampi and Laura Barreca. Bonisoli lauded Farronato's concept as "very original and innovative," highlighting its relevance to global art movements. The project will spotlight a select group of artists, names to be revealed later. Farronato, who directs the Fiorucci Art Trust and co-founded the Volcano Extravaganza festival, has an extensive background in art curation and education. Art critic Luca Beatrice expressed that Farronato will inject "verve" into the Biennale, while Angela Vettese acknowledged his proficiency with emerging Italian artists.
