Milo Manara's Erotic Comics Journey in Genoa Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

A major retrospective of Milo Manara, the Italian comic master known for his erotic and imaginative universe, is on view at Porto Antico in Genoa until October 17, 2021. Titled 'Milo Manara. Un viaggio nel desiderio' (A Journey into Desire), the exhibition is curated by Claudio Curcio for the Neapolitan comic festival Comicon. It features around 100 original plates, sketches, studies, and rare documents spanning over fifty years of Manara's career, including recent works like 'Lockdown Heroes' (2020) supporting women during the Covid-19 emergency. Highlights include pages from 'Il Viaggio di G. Mastorna' based on Federico Fellini's screenplay, with protagonist Paolo Villaggio, a Genoa native. The show also traces Manara's collaborations with Hugo Pratt, his film-related works, a Caravaggio biography, tributes to Brigitte Bardot and the zodiac, and homages to Genoese singer-songwriters Luigi Tenco, Fabrizio De André, and Umberto Bindi. Manara expressed hope to visit in person after his second vaccine dose. Mauro Ferrando, president of Porto Antico di Genova S.p.A., praised the exhibition as a symbol of imaginative creativity and a draw for summer tourism. The show marks the reopening of cultural venues and is held at Porta Siberia in collaboration with the Port Authority and the Municipality of Genoa.
