MilanOltre 2019: Italian Dance Takes Center Stage at 33rd Edition

The 33rd edition of MilanOltre, a dance festival in Milan, runs for a month at the Elfo Puccini theater, featuring over twenty Italian artists. The festival opens with Roberto Zappalà's "A. semu tutti devoti tutti?", a revival of a 2017 work about Catania and Saint Agatha, performed by seven male dancers. Zappalà also presents two works by his young company CZD2: "Être" by Maud de la Purification and "Untitled" by Daniela Bendini, the latter incorporating web memes and tutorials. Virgilio Sieni closes his four appearances with "Solo Goldberg Variations" on Bach's music, accompanied by pianist Andrea Rebaudengo, inviting volunteers from the audience. Diego Tortelli presents "Shifting Perspective", a geometric white platform with three dancers and headphones offering three different tracks by Francesco Sacco. MariaGiulia Serantoni, choreographer at Fattoria Vittadini, presents "Eutropia", inspired by Italo Calvino's "Invisible Cities", using contact microphones to make objects produce sound. Simona Bertozzi's "Joie de vivre" explores happiness through movement and light variations.
