Milano's Ortles District: New Hubs and Cultural Spaces
The Ortles district in Milan is undergoing a transformation with several new cultural and commercial spaces. Wes Anderson designed Bar Luce at Fondazione Prada, complementing Rem Koolhaas's recently completed Torre. Calabiana Hub, a coworking space in a former 19th-century printing house, now hosts showrooms for Altana and Save the Duck. Madama Hostel offers budget accommodation in a Liberty-style building with a bistro and Ohibò club. Symbiosis, a 125,000 sqm project by Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel, will house Fastweb's headquarters near Fondazione Prada. La Salumeria della Musica, a venue combining food and live music, is closing mid-April. The Plastic club, a historic Milan nightlife spot since 1980, has relocated but retains its legacy. Motelsalieri Milano, a multifunctional space by fashion designer Fabio Quaranta, moved from Rome in 2017. The IFOM research center focuses on molecular oncology and hosts public events.
