Milano's Chinatown May Get a Paifang Gate at Via Paolo Sarpi

The Comune di Milano has put forward a plan to erect a Paifang, a traditional Chinese gateway, at the entrance of Chinatown on Via Paolo Sarpi. This structure would be situated at Piazzale Baiamonti, directly across from the upcoming Museo della Resistenza designed by Herzog & De Meuron. The initiative is still in the conceptual phase and needs assessments regarding public interest and practicality. Gaia Romani, the assessora for Quartieri, mentioned that this request has been ongoing and seeks to involve the community. Initially suggested in 2015, the idea was abandoned due to financial concerns. Milan's Chinatown will mark its centenary in 2026, with celebrations already underway. Guidelines for the gate's design and implementation have been approved by the Comune, highlighting its cultural and social significance.
