Milano Mediterranea selects three foreign artists for Giambellino project

artist · 2026-04-27

Milano Mediterranea, a cultural association founded by Anna Serlenga and Rabii Brahim, launched an open call for foreign artists residing in Milan's Giambellino district. A neighborhood committee selected three projects from 41 proposals. The chosen works are Emigrania by illustrators Alessandro Criptsa and Daniele Bonaiuti, which redefines the neighborhood through portraits and interviews; Agitation by queer Armenian artist Giorgia Ohanesian Nardin, a dance and choreography piece exploring the body as a space of resistance; and Mombao by Iranian-Milanese musicians Damon Arabsolgar and Anselmo Luisi, a ritual performance drawing on North African traditions. Production runs from February to summer 2021, with public presentation dates unconfirmed. The project aims to challenge the predominantly white cultural production and foster a postcolonial dialogue. Milano Mediterranea also runs two workshops: Trap community opera with rapper Diamante, and a technical workshop led by Manuel D'Onofrio. The association collaborates with Teatro La Creta.
