Milano Design Week 2017: White in the City, Design Hostel, and More

During the 2017 Salone del Mobile, multiple architecture and design events take place across Milan. White in the City, promoted by Oikos and Kreat, gathers leading contemporary architects at venues including the Pinacoteca and Accademia di Brera, the former Church of San Carpoforo, Palazzo Cusani, and Orto di Class to discuss the theme of white and its relationship with the city. The White Young exhibition showcases emerging talents focusing on white as an innovative element for an eco-sustainable society. The Design Hostel opens in Bovisa from April 1 to 11, a temporary hostel inside a former factory with 40 pop-up rooms for international designers to exhibit and live with their creations, curated by Davide Crippa of Ghigos Ideas and organized by MakersHub and Ideas Bit Factory in collaboration with POLI.design, the School of Design, and the Department of Design of the Politecnico di Milano. space&interiors by MADE returns for its second edition with an installation by Migliore+Servetto Architects in Porta Nuova, featuring the exhibition Absolute Lightness on the theme of lightness in finishes. Piuarch presents Façade Gardening at its Milan studio in via Palermo 5, a vertical garden of 180 lines of plants reaching 10 meters in height and spanning 35 meters in length, created with landscape architect Cornelius Gavril using an ancient technique of grafting cut flowers and plants onto tubers for stability and longevity.
