Milan to Open Fashion Museum at Palazzo Dugnani
Milan will finally have its own Fashion Museum, announced Undersecretary for Culture Lucia Borgonzoni on July 28, 2022. The museum will be housed in the 17th-century Palazzo Dugnani, overlooking the Giardini di Porta Venezia, and will serve as a space for experimentation and research on the fashion system, showcasing the savoir-faire of the most contemporary Italian supply chain and exploring new trends. The Ministry of Culture has allocated €4 million from the Grandi Progetti fund, with possible additional support from private entities. The choice of Palazzo Dugnani, already owned by the municipality, was driven by the need to start construction by 2023. The building features frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo and Ferdinando Porta, commissioned in the 1730s by Count Giuseppe Casati. Milan's Culture Councillor Tommaso Sacchi stated that the city has long awaited a museum representing this key part of its identity, and that they are working with Camera della Moda, directors, and public and private partners to create a museum that tells the story in the best possible way. Camera della Moda president Carlo Capasa expressed enthusiasm for the project, though no definitive agreements have been reached. The museum is envisioned as a living space for young people and a showcase for Made in Italy, past and future fashion.
