Milan school painted bronze before demolition as temporary monument

other · 2026-04-27

In the spring of 2023, the old Parco La Spezia school on Via Rimini in Milan is scheduled for demolition. Before that happens, artist Roberto Coda Zabetta, born in 1975 in Biella, has transformed the building into a stunning bronze sculpture. This project is a collaboration among various groups, including the Municipality of Milan, Municipio 6, Super il festival delle periferie, and others like Negro Servizi and Gruppo CAP, which is leading urban renewal with architect Federica Verona. As part of their community engagement through Super il festival, launched by TumbTumb in 2015, Gruppo CAP plans to open the ground floor to the public, offering a cocktail bar, library, and nursery. Gaia Romani, Milan's Councillor for Civic and General Services, hailed the initiative as a model for using art to rejuvenate changing neighborhoods.
