Milan's Via Tertulliano District Transforms into Cultural Hub

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

Once an anonymous post-industrial block east of Porta Romana, Milan's Via Tertulliano area has rapidly evolved into a vibrant cultural district. Key players include Avantgarden Gallery, a pioneer in urban art since 2007; DanceHaus, founded by choreographer Susanna Beltrami in 2009 and recognized as one of Italy's four National Centers for Dance Production; and Archive, a non-profit space from Berlin founded by Chiara Figone, which opened in summer 2021 with a solo show by Muna Mussie. Design studio Dotdotdot, established in 2004, creates digital and new media experiences for clients like MAAT in Lisbon and Padua Botanical Garden. Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia, led by Genoese architect Alfonso Femia, conducts over 500 interviews with designers and cultural figures. Other notable additions include bakery Davide Longoni, communication agency Green Media Lab (with a second office in Los Angeles), and the Milano City Village residential complex on the former Telecom site, featuring 163 apartments and nearly 5,000 square meters of green space. The area also hosts osteria U Barba, offering Genoese cuisine and periodicals.
