Milan's RAI Tower to Become Protected Monument

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

Following an inspection by the Soprintendenza on September 29, the RAI Tower in Milan, a 100-meter iconic structure located near Arco della Pace, will receive protection as a city monument with historical-architectural significance. Erected in April 1952, it represents the era of television and Milan's economic expansion, ceasing broadcasting in 2015. During the 2014 FAI Spring Days, it attracted 11,000 visitors, making it Italy's most frequented site, and it was also part of Expo 2015. RAI is centralizing its operations at the Portello production facility, with construction set to commence in early 2023 and conclude by 2025. The nearby offices, designed by Giò Ponti and Nino Bertolaia, will be sold as part of a €465 million real estate initiative approved in July 2023.
