Milan's Museo del Novecento Hosts First Comprehensive Retrospective of Giosetta Fioroni
The Museo del Novecento in Milan presents 'Viaggio sentimentale,' the first complete retrospective of Roman artist Giosetta Fioroni (born 1932), featuring 160 works across nine sections. The exhibition traces her evolution from early informal works, influenced by her sculptor father Mario Fioroni and compared to Capogrossi, through a vibrant transition to Pop in the 1960s with pieces like 'Interno famigliare,' 'Interno con freccia rossa,' and 'L'amour,' shown alongside works by Festa, Angeli, and Schifano. Central are her 'Argenti' (silver paintings), which blend everyday objects, art history references, and ambiguous figures, with a notable cycle on Venice described as essential and almost abstract. Later phases include the 'Piccoli cimiteri del meraviglioso' inspired by her time in the Veneto countryside, the semi-conceptual 'Atlante di medicina legale,' material paintings from the 1980s-1990s, and 2000s works incorporating drawing, text, and collage. Three recent large canvases include a portrait of Marilyn Manson. The exhibition concludes with a 2002 resin self-portrait of the artist with her nine-year-old self, emphasizing the cyclical nature of her six-decade career. Curated by Stefano Castelli.
