Milan's Grande Brera Opens After 50 Years with Palazzo Citterio

exhibition · 2026-04-26

On December 7, 2024, the Grande Brera museum complex in Milan was inaugurated in alignment with the feast of Sant'Ambrogio, a decision made by former Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano. This contemporary art center encompasses the renovated Palazzo Citterio, the Pinacoteca di Brera, and the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense. Director Angelo Crespi expects an annual income of 10 million euros and a footfall of 1 million visitors, bolstered by the nearby Cenacolo Vinciano. The museum features collections from Emilio and Maria Jesi and Lamberto Vitali, showcasing masterpieces by Picasso, Morandi, and Modigliani. Initially, it will welcome guests from Thursday to Sunday afternoons, with ticket prices set at 12 euros or 20 euros for a combined entry to the Pinacoteca. By May, staffing will increase to 50, supported by private sponsors like Pomellato and BMW Italia.
