Milan's Giambellino district gets a Diabolik mural in street art revitalization

A new street art initiative in Milan's Giambellino neighborhood aims to create a comic book district through murals, starting with a Diabolik mural on via Pesto. The project, launched on March 24, 2021, is sponsored by Municipio 6 and involves the Astorina publishing house, MUDEC – Museo delle Culture di Milano, and the collective We Run the Street. The Diabolik mural, painted by young artists from We Run the Street, is located near a previous mural dedicated to Valentina and Guido Crepax in via San Cristoforo. Mario Gomboli, director of Diabolik, noted that the character, created by Milanese Angela Giussani, had yet to conquer the city's streets after appearing in cinema, television, and merchandise. The project took a year to develop, with support from property owners at via Savona 27, sponsors NewLac, Consorzio Bramante, and Vibrostop. Santo Minniti, president of Municipio 6, stated that the comic district aims to make the neighborhood attractive after years of degradation. The Diabolik mural is expected to be completed in about ten days. Gomboli also mentioned the upcoming Diabolik film by the Manetti Bros., inspired by the third issue of the comic, with Gomboli contributing to the screenplay.
