Milan's Ex-Slaughterhouse to Become IED Campus and Aria Eco-District

A sustainable neighborhood named Aria is set to rise on the site of Milan's old slaughterhouse in Porta Vittoria. This development will house a 30,000 sqm international campus for IED (Istituto Europeo di Design), accommodating 4,500 students, alongside a residence with 400 beds. The project, led by Redo Sgr in collaboration with IED, CA Ventures, E.ON, Deltaecopolis, and CCL, features designs from Snøhetta and others. It will offer 1,200 affordable apartments, coworking areas, and 'Fabbriche dell'Aria' by PNAT studio, establishing Milan's first carbon-negative district. IED President Carlo Allorio noted that the campus will unify 10 locations, while Assessor Pierfrancesco Maran highlighted the focus on affordable housing and urban renewal. Plans for the nearby Palazzine Liberty may also include cultural initiatives.
