Milan's Colosseo Verde to Include Museum of the Ancient City
Milan's Colosseo Verde project expands with a new Museum of the Ancient City, funded by the Italian Ministry of Culture. The museum will be housed in disused buildings at Via Conca del Naviglio 17-21, owned by the Municipality of Milan, and will display archaeological finds from the Anfiteatro, including those currently at the Antiquarium Alda Levi. The project also includes reception services, temporary exhibition spaces, educational activities, and a café overlooking the archaeological area. The Colosseo Verde, officially named PAN – Parco Amphitheatrum Naturae, began construction in May 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Designed by architect Attilio Stocchi, it reconstructs the ancient amphitheater's footprint with trees and vegetation, creating a park and cultural space for 2,000 people on over 22,000 square meters. The museum was approved by the city council on October 31, 2024, on a proposal by finance assessor Emmanuel Conte, with a collaboration agreement with the Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio. The municipality will use €6.6 million from the Ministry of Culture for the recovery of the state-owned buildings. The museum will also house storage and conservation areas for archaeological artifacts from other local contexts.
